hello?

This is Director Jong-Cheol Park, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Some patients who have undergone chin surgery have subsequently

There are also cases where you want to achieve the appearance of a longer chin. In this article, we will explain whether you can insert an implant after chin surgery and the various methods of restoring chin length other than implants.

Specifically, I hope this will help those of you who have the following questions:

If the chin length has become shorter due to a combination of chin reduction and chin advancement surgery, what is the best way to lengthen it again?

In this case, you have three options:

1. Restoration of chin length using prosthetics

2. Restoring the length of the chin using your own bone

3. Chin restoration using filler

no see.

Even after chin surgery, customized implants can be inserted to lengthen or improve the shape of the chin.

For example, if you want your chin to look shorter or more forward after surgery,

Additional enhancement is possible with prosthetics.

This is a real case.

Restoration of chin length using one's own bone

There is also a method of using the patient's own bone to naturally extend the length of the chin. In this case, bone is harvested from the mandibular ramus and transplanted to the chin. By increasing the length through bone grafting, the empty space can be naturally filled and a stable structure can be maintained.

No prosthesis material is as biocompatible as your own bone.

And the best bone for jaw restoration is the bone inside the mouth.

This method can be expected to have more biocompatible results than prosthetics, but the procedure is more complicated and the recovery period may be longer. In addition, depending on the condition of the bone harvest site, additional allografting may be required.

The third way to restore the length of the chin is to use fillers, but the following points must be considered:

Chin restoration using fillers

Fillers are a relatively simple procedure, with the advantages of minimal bleeding and quick recovery. However, fillers can cause sagging jawlines over time due to the weight of the filler.

This sagging jawline is sometimes called a “witch chin” and can be aesthetically undesirable. Restoration with fillers may be an option if you want a short recovery time and a simple procedure, but long-term results must be considered.

That's why I don't recommend filler injections to even the average patient.
Choosing the right method for chin length restoration

Which method is best depends on the patient's original chin tip condition and the degree of length restoration desired. You can choose between implants, your own bone, and fillers, each of which has distinct advantages and disadvantages.

Fillers are simple, but can cause sagging jawlines, and although your own bone is natural, the surgery is complicated. Prosthetics have the advantage of being able to create a more specific desired shape.

In conclusion, there are various methods to restore the chin length after chin surgery, and customized selection is necessary for each patient's situation.
